Introduction

HEC-Japanese Need Based scholarship program for Pakistani University Students aims at providing equal opportunities to talented students who are unable to pursue higher education due to financial constraints. The scope of project includes award of 1500 scholarships within five years to the students who are currently enrolled or plan to enroll in any of the below mentioned participating institutions. The program is targeted towards Under-Graduate (4 Years Bachelor) and Graduate (2 Years Masters) level study program of Pakistani institutions in the following six disciplines.

  • Engineering
  • IT & Telecommunication
  • Business Administration
  • Social Sciences
  • Basic Sciences
  • Agriculture & Natural Sciences

Objectives

The program aims to support those meritorious students who are unable to pursue higher education due to financial constraints. The program caters to Bachelors and Masters Level students in Pakistani universities by providing Need-based scholarships to a number of 1,500 applicants

Scholarship Details

HEC-Japanese Need Based Scholarship Program has been in operation since 2005. A number of 37 public & 13 private leading institutions are participating in the program. The program provides financial assistance by giving opportunities to the candidates from middle and lower middle income segments to pursue higher studies.

Scholarship Offering

Comprehensive scholarship is offered under the program. The scholarship provides funds for the following expenses:

  • Tuition fee
  • Lodging
  • Transportation
  • Books
  • Incidental costs

The scholarship has succeeded in providing the necessary financial support for sustaining educational expenses of the students both at private & public sector participating institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be eligible to compete for securing admission in the approved discipline of the participating institution’s admission policy.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in Undergraduate (4 Years) /Graduate (2 Years) program.
  • The applicant may chose to apply for scholarship in any of the above mentioned six disciplines.
  • The scholarship disbursement process has begun since academic session, September 2005-06. Applications of all those candidates, who applied in the first session of scholarship slot disbursement, are being finalized. Currently scholarship applications are invited (by all the participating institutions as per their academic calendar) from all those students who have been enrolled in the session/ term 2006-07.
  • All the applicants who secure admission will have an equal opportunity to compete for the Scholarship according to their financial need.

How to Apply

  • Apply for admission at any of the above mentioned participating institution.
  • At the time of getting admission, indicate that you require financial assistance.
  • Fill up the student financial assistance form available with administration offices of the participating institution.

*(The scholarship application form is available with the administration offices of the relevant institutions. Please note that you can get the scholarship form when you have secured admission in the Institution. The filled Scholarship form along with the supporting documents should be submitted to the Participating Institutions).

When can I apply?

  • Apply according to the academic calendar of the participating institutions and ensure that you have secured admission in any of the targeted institution.
  • Kindly note that students have to apply through the participating universities/ institutions. HEC will not consider any student’s application directly.

Scholarship Award Process

  • After securing admission, the student has to fill out scholarship forms provided by the participating institutions’ Scholarship Aid Office and submit them along will the supporting documents at the institution.
  • Data and supporting documents of the potential candidate are reviewed by Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC).
  • The ISAC recommends potential candidates to HEC Scholarship Management Committee (SMC).
  • The cases are presented at SMC which are approved after review of SMC. The scholarship funds for the selected students are transferred to participating institutions for onward disbursement to students.
